888 launches poker, casino & sport brands in Romania and Denmark

888 Holdings Public has launched its poker, casino and sport brands in Romania and will release the same brands in Denmark next week.

The online gaming operator said it has made the decision after procuring licenses from their respective regulators. 888.com has been authorised in both countries to launch three of its prominent online brands, as part of the company’s ongoing strategy to expand into the regulated gaming market.

888Poker, 888Casino and 888Sport, which are all currently operating in other countries, has already launched in Romania and will be launched in Denmark next Monday.

The decision to move into Romania follows on from the country setting up a regulated online gaming market.

“Launching in two regulated markets concurrently is another testimony of our ability to leverage our regulated technology and know-how in delivering our market-leading products,” said Chief Operating Officer Itai Frieberger.

“We are proud to offer the 888 marquee brands in these markets, reaffirming our strategy to become a dominant operator in global gaming regulations,” he added.

888 Holdings is currently competing with rival GVC Holdings PLC to takeover. 888’s recently revised takeover is favourite to go through despite attempts by GVC to trump the deal by consistently increasing its offer until it made a final bid in August.

Although 888’s offer of 104.09 pence per share is being recommended, GVC has made a higher offer of 124.0 pence per share, valuing  at GBP1.02 billion. 888 shares were down 1.4% to 160.25 pence per share on Thursday morning.
