After winning the Kentucky Derby as the 5/2 pre-race favourite, American Pharoah is going to attempt what no horse has done since 1978: win the Triple Crown. American Pharoah will be at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday, May 16 for the 140^th running of the Preakness Stakes. You don’t have to wait until then to place your bets because at press time, American Pharoah is available at 5/6 to win on the Preakness futures market. He is also 9/4 to win both the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes.

American Pharoah will encounter some stiff competition along the way. Firing Line and Dortmund, the other top three finishers at the Kentucky Derby, will join the undefeated colt at Pimlico. Two contenders who passed on Churchill Downs also will be amongst the competition for the Preakness: Divining Rod, who finished third at the Tampa Bay Derby, and Bodhisattva, who took first place in last month’s Federico Tesio Stakes at Pimlico.
